In February 2019, I went to visit my super good friend Shirley in Ireland. We embarked on this very spontaneous 3 day road trip accross the South of Ireland, accompanied by the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, so dear to our hearts, this whole time.
When we arrived to the nice village of Enniscrone (Co. Sligo), it did not take long before we registered at Kilcullen’s Bath House for a moment of pure delight with their hot seaweed baths and private (and very ancient) steam bath cabin. The spa is located right by the ocean and the view of the wild & powerful Atlantic Ocean is splendid.
The building is a very old establishment dating from the middle of the 19th century, providing a very unique and traditional experience.
To be totally honest, I must say that the old age of the building and the structure kind of freaked me out a little at first. I tend to prefer more “modern” spas (even though I’m super aware of the chance to live something like this), because with my sensitivity, newer places with lighter energies are less charged and easier for me to handle.
But as soon as the treatment starts it’s all forgotten.
They bring super hot natural Sea Water for the bath with the beautiful Seaweeds who are going to be my BFFs for the next hour. This is a very simple and pure organic treatment using the natural power of Seaweeds to deeply moisturize the skin, increase circulation and promote healing.
I first jump into the traditional steam bath cabin… What a delight! My whole body is enclosed in this wooden cabin and only my head is coming out of it and I can breath fresh air while my body is receiving all the benefits of the sauna.
My friend and I chose to have our private individual space and it was a pure moment of relaxation and regeneration with the ocean healing energies, thanks to the properties of natural ocean water, the benefits of the seaweeds and the detoxification of the steam bath.
The benefits of the seaweed bath
Tradition along the west coast of Ireland holds that the practice of bathing in hot water and Seaweed provides relief from painful symptoms of rheumatism and arthritis. The therapeutic power of the Seaweed Bath is attributed to the high concentration of Iodine that occurs naturally in Sea Water and in Seaweed.
In its growing process Seaweed extracts this Iodine from the surrounding Sea Water and concentrates it in its fronds to such an extent that some seaweeds have up to 20,000 times the concentration of Iodine of the water in which they grow.
Few additional facts about the benefits of Seaweed baths
- Re-mineralises the body.
- Hydrates and moisturises nails, hair, and skin.
- Soothes aches and pains.
- Deeply detoxifies and removes unwanted toxins
- Aids the healing process of skin conditions: psoriasis and eczema.
- Helps against the signs of ageing and cellulite.
- Stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic system.
- Breaks down lactic acid.
After this treatment I felt my energy super high for a few days. It really helped me regenerate and reenergize. It’s a real blessing and at a super price if you only sign up for the spa like we did.
I can only recommend warmly this Ireland’s indigenous spa therapy.
